Major Infrastructure Plant and Equipment
Pre-Conditioned Air Asset Replacement
Client: Sydney Airport Corporation
Value: $8.3m
Role: Project Manager
Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) provides temperature-controlled air to a parked aircraft. PCAs are used by airlines to enable the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) engine to be turned off during ground time thus saving fuel and providing sustainability benefits. Aircraft PCA requirements are prescribed by aircraft manufacturers.
This project includes developing a proactive asset renewal strategy to upgrade or replace aging PCA assets which are no longer economical to maintain, which would increase the reliability, resilience, compatibility with next gen aircraft and safe operation of these assets.
Undertake review of upstream electrical connections and supply to identify any works required,
Develop detailed design and drawings outlining electrical requirements, unit locations, technical requirements, integration with SYD operations etc. Documents suitable for tender.
Tender based on preferred suppliers and prioritised delivery schedule based on other airport bay priorities.

Visual Guidance Docking System Asset Replacement
Client: Sydney Airport Corporation
Value: $11.9m
Role: Project Manager
Nose in Guidance (Visual Docking Guidance) System (NIGS / VDGS) Asset Renewal project, which encompasses up to 81 units across three terminals, freight, and remote bays at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. The reliability of the NIGS assets directly affects SYDs operational performance and impacts customer experience as they assist aircraft to dock at the exact position required on the gate.
Development of asset replacement designs for all NIGS assets (81) – including requirements for each asset (Do nothing, repair, refurb or replace) and upgrading associated infrastructure.
Technical Functionality Assessments: Review the technology solutions available and develop a production selection recommendation, Structural and Electrical Review: Assess existing supports / Façade interface, and downstream electrical loads, identify replacement requirements, Planning Confirmation: Confirm the optimum NIGs position (height, distance from stop bars), location of sensors and interaction for efficient operations.
Develop prioritised list for NIGS asset renewal, to mitigate impact to the airport.
Ground Power Unit Asset Replacement
Client: Sydney Airport Corporation
Value: $10m
Role: Project Manager
Ground Power Units (GPU) are used by airlines to enable the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) engine to be turned off during ground time thus saving fuel and providing sustainability benefits. Aircraft GPU requirements are prescribed by aircraft manufacturers, typical aircraft demand for a turn at T1 ranges from 180kVA - 360kVA
Replacement and upgrade 56 GPUs, Introduction of 46 Coiler power delivery systems, testing and replacement of submains and cable containment, replacement and upgrading circuit protection
Installation of new efficient GPU equipment aligns with SYD’s Sustainability Strategy and target the reductions in Scope 3 emissions, presenting presents a 25% increase in electrical efficiency which is a Potential Energy Reduction 2,560,000 kW or an annual saving of $982,000.
